Head as home
When the body or the room isn’t safe, the mind becomes the place to live: books, systems, daydreams, analysis. It works, and it builds formidable minds. It also leaves the body as a vehicle you drive from somewhere above it. It shows up as intellectualizing feelings, not noticing hunger or pain until they’re screaming, and feeling unreal. The way back in usually runs through the body, not more thinking about it.
