Intellectual alienation
Is this a real thing or just ego?
The evidence is real and messy. In the 1920s–40s, Leta Hollingworth studied very high-IQ kids and saw social trouble climb as the gap from peers widened. Most gifted people do fine. The trouble concentrates where the gap is large and there are no peers around. A big Mensa survey found higher self-reported mood and anxiety disorders, but a self-selected sample is a grain-of-salt situation.
