OSDD-1

What’s a “part,” actually?

A mind that has to keep going through something overwhelming can split the job. One part goes to school or work and stays functional. Other parts hold the fear, the rage, the kid who never left that room. That’s the structural dissociation model. In OSDD-1 the walls between parts are thinner than in DID, but the switching is still involuntary.

This is the dominant model among dissociation specialists (van der Hart, Nijenhuis & Steele). Trauma divides the personality into a part that carries on with daily life and parts that stay stuck in the threat. It’s a spectrum: one split in PTSD, more in complex PTSD and some BPD, and many in DID. It’s useful because it makes symptoms make sense. Where else it shows up →
